UNT BSU Fashion Show Spring 2024

This was the first fashion show that I was apart of it was very exciting and stressful for me at the same time. My friends and I created a group called Noir 6 because we all wanted to come together and create a collection to represent the black students in the fashion program at UNT. Noir 6 is an all-black collective of friends, artists, and individuals- all with our own unique tastes and styles- working to build a community, create together, and uplift one another. The word Noir means black and French and we wanted to highlight the word black to signify that we stand together to uplift the black community and to bring our ideas to life. I was designed with the menswear look of the collection along with two other members in the group. We came up with two looks for the menswear I was really inspired by a lot of components of my life which helped with coming up with the sketches. With the help of the other team members we came together to create a collection which turned out amazing.


Unconcerned

The purpose of this dress is to symbolize that black women shouldn't have to change the way they dress to cover up their bodies to please society. I want this dress to show that black women shouldn't have to dress a certain way to get approval from others in society or to fit in with others. Instead, I want this dress to show off their body to make them feel empowered and confident to display their body. It is classy, elegant, sexy, and eye-catching. It's a method for women to express themselves through their clothing be empowered and have the confidence to display their bodies without being judged by society. Symbolizing beauty, it shows that women are capable of leading and are capable of expressing enormous abilities while looking amazing. The silver chains that I've added to the dress represent a statement piece for the dress it adds character. It also empowers the person and gives them confidence in what they wear.

The Award Show

The purpose of this project was to create a unique suit. My professor gave me a few requirements which allowed me to be creative when designing this suit. I wanted my suit to not be traditional I wanted to incorporate streetwear into the design. I got my inspiration from award shows like the Grammys and the Oscars I wanted to create a suit you can walk down the red carpet like at a movie premiere. The jacket and pants fabric are a maroon-red wool blend. I used multiple techniques to create the jacket such as adding bound buttonholes, fully lined, patch pockets with flaps, golden buttons, and a golden metal zipper. The pants are baggy and fully lined with golden buttons going down the side of the pants. The title of my suit, The Award Show emphasizes style and gives a reminder that you don't have to follow the normal tradition you can create your own style.


Spida

This is my first menswear's wear project that I custom sized to fit myself. It's a combination of fashion and technology my original idea for this project was to design a garment based off of spiders. It's a denim jacket with laser edged spider webs and 3d printed spiders. I really got my inspiration from multiple components music, movies, anime, tv shows, etc.

Girl From Greece

I was inspired to design "Girl From Greece" by my desire to visit Greece. I made a promise to myself that once I graduate from college, I would choose a destination to go to because I have always wanted to see the world. Greece is the top destination for me because of the lovely city and the beach views. I use music to get really inspired in all of my creative designs so I pick a song or multiple songs and start sketching designs based on the vibe of the music or the vision I get from the music. Greek mythology and old Greek art, such as those from The School of Athens, also inspire me.

MEAN GREEN

This is by far my favorite project that I was apart of this is actually a collaboration piece I did with one of my good friends Dominique Hawkins. We made this garment for the University of North Texas Homecoming and got amazing feedback. The inspiration I got for this garment is from an letterman jacket I wanted these pants to have that same feeling which is why I added the big lettering and the eagle patches. The main fabric gives off an nature feeling which I though would be perfect for the theme and the Stripped fabric creates a diamond formation in the middle but also an "x" formation on the sides. Making the garment stand out.

Bad and Boujee & Late Night

It is bright, elegant, eye-catching, and a method to project confidence to wear Bad and Boujee & Late Night. It represents a method for women to be courageous, express themselves through their clothing, and be empowered to display their own traits. The songs "Gold Roses" by Rick Ross featuring Drake and "Bad and Boujee" by the Migos served as the initial sources of inspiration for both of the clothing's design concepts. Symbolizing enjoying a beautiful and opulent lifestyle. Both outfits show that women are capable of leading, that they are equally important and capable of expressing enormous abilities, striving to achieve whatever goals they have in this world.

Suits

This was by far the most difficult project that I have done because of how much detail went into it. I wanted to do a tailored suit jacket to test my limits and achieve something that I didn't thing I could do. I got inspired to do this project from Ralph Lauren's Fall 1995 Fashion Show and by the Netflix show called "Suits". I wanted my design to have a classic and classy look to it. I want this piece to represent the power women have in this world. For example a woman who is the boss at a law firm.
